He is a paediatric oncologist and a clinician scientist with research focus is in improving treatment outcome of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, the most common type of childhood cancer. He is the principal investigator of the successful multi-centre Malaysia-Singapore ALL which achieved 90% cure. His focus is on the use of biomarkers to help better manage each child’s treatment. Celeste Bento’s expertise lies in various disease groups such as Hemoglobinopathies, Congenitalery throcytosis, Hemolytic Anemias, and other related conditions. Additionally, Celeste Bento is a Principal Investigator at the 'Genes, Populations and Diseases' group at CIAS, University of Coimbra. Mrs Harbans Kaur Dhilllon

Harbans started working as a pharmacist in UMMC in April 1979 after graduating from the Victorian College of Pharmacy, Australia. She set up a Sterile Complex at UMMC pharmacy unit in 1998, which is a Centre of Excellence, to compound parenteral nutrition solutions and reconstitute drugs, mainly cytotoxic drugs. She was appointed as Chief Pharmacist of UMMC on 1 April 2015 till 29 August 2015. Harbans was appointed as Deputy Director (Professional) of UMMC on 30 August 2015 till 1 February 2017. She retired on 2 February 2017 at the age of 60.

Prof Dr Marie José Kersten

The main focus of my research is the search for novel, more targeted treatment options for patients with B-cell malignancies, including Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and multiple myeloma (MM). I am the co-founder and chair of the Lunenburg Lymphoma Phase I/II Consortium (LLPC) and coordinator of several LLPC studies, with a focus on targeted drugs and (cellular) immunotherapy. I have played a major role in implementing CAR T-cell therapy in the Netherlands. I am also the international principal investigator for several international phase I/II studies in WM, follicular lymphoma and Hodgkin lymphoma. All of these studies include correlative translational side studies with the aim of better understanding the mechanism of action of targeted drugs and the identification and validation of prognostic/predictive biomarkers. Research on biomarkers is also done within the context of the international Lunenburg Lymphoma Biomarker Consortium.

Dr Mimi Azura Aziz currently is a Haematologist at the Department of Pathology, Hospital Tunku Azizah. She received her Degree in Medicine from the Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1997 and her Master Degree in Pathology (Haematology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2005. She did her niche area training in stem cell lab service at University of New South Wales, Sydney in 2008 and short attachment in clinical flow cytometry at National University Hospital, Singapore in 2014. She was posted in HKL from 2005 till 2018 where she was incharge of stem cell lab and clinical flow cytometry service. In 2019, the stem cell lab service and flow cytometry service moved to Hospital Tunku Azizah (WCHKL) as part of pathology lab service expansion. Her main diagnostic interest is in flow cytometric immunophenotyping for haematology diseases and has been actively involved in upgrading, conducting training and research in this area. She is a member of several Pathology and Haematology Societies such as College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine, Malaysian Laboratory Haematology Society, Malaysian Society of Haematology and Malaysian Blood Transfusion Society. Dr Muhd Zanapiah Zakaria

Dr Zanapiah graduated with MBChB from University of Otago, New Zealand and subsequently obtained his Masters in Medicine (Internal Medicine) from University Malaya. He went on and did his Clinical Haematology subspecialty training in Hospital Ampang before he went to University of Calgary, Canada to do a Fellowship in Blood and Marrow Transplantation. He had served as Consultant Haematologist and Transplant Physician at Hospital Ampang from 2010 till 2015. Currently, he is practising at Prince Court Medical Centre and Pusat Terapi Sel, Pusat Perubatan UKM. Prof Dr Ng Soo Chin

Prof Dr Ng Soo Chin graduated from University of Malaya in 1981 and obtained his initial post-graduate qualification i.e. Master of Pathology (distinction) from University of Malaya in 1986. He then passed his MRCP (UK) and FRCPA (Aus) in 1987 and 1989 respectively. He is currently the Consultant Haematologist at Subang Jaya Medical Center (SJMC) and Medical Director of SJMC Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory. He is Adjunct Professor, M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Tunku Abdul Rahman University. He was responsible for setting up the first private blood diseases center and together with Dr Alan Teh established the first private haematopoietic stem cell transplant center in Malaysia. He has presented and published more than 262 scientific papers in Haematology. His special interests include diagnostic hematology, haemato-oncology / stem cell transplant, immune thrombocytopenia, thromboembolism and transfusion medicine. He served as member for Asia-Pacific advisory boards for chronic myeloid leukemia, lymphoma, and ITP respectively. He is the past President of the Malaysian Society of Haematology and the past President of the Asean Federation of Haematology.
Dr Nor Hafizah Ahmad

Dr. Nor Hafizah Ahmad is a Transfusion Medicine Consultant and currently holds the position as the Head of Clinical Transfusion Division and National Reference Immunohematology Laboratory in National Blood Centre Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has had 10 years of experience in the field of Clinical Transfusion and Immunohematology and has had the opportunity to undergo training for her sub-specialization in Clinical Transfusion in Karolinska Institute, Stockholm and Immunohematology in University of Lund, Sweden. She is also the chairperson for the National Rare Donor Program and the Secretariat for the National Patient Blood Management in Ministry of Health, Malaysia. She has also been appointed as the Honorary Lecturer for the Masters of Transfusion Medicine Program since 2018 in one of the local universities in Malaysia. Her role is not limited only to her workplace as she has also been largely involved in conducting training medical personnel in the area of Patient Blood Management & Immunohematology around the country since 2014. Professor Rosline Hassan is a highly respected Haematopathologist with a strong leadership and professional track record. She is currently a Senior Consultant in charge of Molecular Services, Department of Hematology, School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. She was formerly Deputy Dean of Research and Head of Department of Hematology both for nine consecutive years. Dr Rosline has been appointed as Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia (FAMM), Affiliate Fellow for Royal College of Australasia and a member of the National Specialist Registry in Hematology. Her primary interest is in the molecular aspect of hematological disorders such as leukemias and myeloproliferative disorders, cell culture studies and stem cell studies, as well as red cell disorders including thalassaemia. She has spearheading molecular services in Hematology department and improve diagnostic work-up of patients with haematological disorders. In addition, she is also involved in the service management of blood transfusion. She has written numerous publications both locally and internationally and has received several national accolades for her presentation at many scientific conferences. Dr Rosline has supervised many post-graduate in Pathology with Hematology sub-specialty and doctoral candidates in the area. Apart from her involvement in School of Medical Science, Dr Rosline is a visiting Professor of Mahasarakham University, Thailand and hold appointment as Specialty Education Subcommittee (SSC-EDU) for Medical Genetic Subspecialty, Malaysian Medical Council, Malaysia, and Panel Accreditation for Postgraduate Master of Medicine, Malaysian Medical Council. Dr Sridurga Mithraprabhu’s career focus is bridging basic research and clinical practice in cancer healthcare. As a Research Fellow in the Myeloma Research Group (MRG) at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD), her 10+ active research years in multiple myeloma (MM) have yielded significant accomplishments. Research on histone deacetylases (HDAC) resulted in 11 manuscripts, 6 conference abstracts, and a funded Phase I clinical trial at Alfred Hospital (AH) worth $180K. Since 2014, she has led the MRG's liquid biopsy research program, enhancing genomic characterisation and therapeutic monitoring in MM. This effort led to influential publications, funding, and invitations to speak at national and international conferences. Dr Sridurga Mithraprabhu’s role in the Black Swan Research Initiative (BSRI) of the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) highlights her contributions to liquid biopsy platforms. Her research impacts practice changes in MM clinical trials and extends to ctDNA genomic profiling in other haematological cancers and provided the framework for the establishment of a national biobank, M1000. She has mentored students and collaborated with industry partners for diagnostic modality development.
Dr Tan Chen Lung Daryl

Dr Daryl Tan is a consultant haematologist at the Clinic for myeloma, Lymphoma and Blood Disorders at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore. He graduated from National University of Singapore in 1997 and obtained his membership with the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom) in 2002. He received his internal medicine and haematology training at the Singapore General Hospital. In 2007, he was awarded the Singapore Government Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship to pursue postdoctoral training and research in the field of lymphoma at Stanford University, USA. Upon his return, Dr Tan served as the clinical lead for the lymphoma and myeloma services at the Singapore General Hospital and spearheaded several clinical trials examining novel approaches in treating lymphoma and multiple myeloma. He was Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and received numerous grants from the National Medical Research Council, Singapore Health Foundation and the Singapore Cancer Syndicate for his research. His research has led to several international presentations and more than 100 publications in high impact factor scientific journals including several first-authored articles in the Lancet Oncology, Blood and the Annals of Oncology. Dr Tan was elected into the International Myeloma Working Group in 2014 and also sits on the advisory panel of the International Myeloma Foundation’s Asia Myeloma Network. Dr Tan is currently a board member of the Chapter of Haematologists and is appointed by the Ministry of Health as an advisor for the Residency Advisory Committee for Haematology training in Singapore.

Dr Tengku Ahmad Hidayat is a Consultant Clinical Haematologist and Physician at Beacon Hospital and holds the posts of the Head of Medicine there. He obtained his medical degree in 2006 from International Islamic University Malaysia followed completed MRCP (UK) in 2012 and obtained FRCP (Glasg) in 2023. Dr Veena Selvaratnam is a Haematologist based in Hospital Ampang. She completed her MRCP UK in 2009 and her FRCPath (Hematology) in 2019. Prof Dr Wendy Erber

Wendy Erber is a Consultant Haematologist, with a major interest in diagnostic haematology and translational research. After medical school in Sydney, she completed her DPhil in Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship and then, on returning to Australia, gained FRCPA. She held positions as Consultant Haematologist in Perth (Western Australia) before becoming Head of Haematology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge where she established and led the East of England Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service. In 2011 she was recruited to the University of WA and PathWest as Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. She joined the Board of the International Council for Standardization in Haematology in 2015 and was elected Chair in 2020. Her research interests have spanned immunocytochemistry, genomics of haematological disease and invention of imaging flow cytometry that incorporates FISH. She divides her time between diagnostics, haematology education, advancing medical science and mentoring future haematologists and researchers.

Dr Wong Chieh Lee is a Senior Consultant Haematologist at Sunway Medical Centre. She obtained her PhD degree in Medicine from Imperial College London and was a Consultant Haematologist at Hammersmith hospital in London before returning back to Malaysia in 2009 to join Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as an Associate Professor in Haematology & Internal Medicine. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Pathological Sciences and Medical degree (MBChB) from Leeds University, United Kingdom. She received her postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and subsequently Haematology in London and was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT).). Dr Wong’s main research interest is in the molecular pathogenesis of myeloproliferative neoplasm involving the genetic and epigenetic signatures of the various subtypes of myeloproliferative neoplasm using microarray and next generation.
Prof Dr Zilfalil Alwi
Professor Zilfalil Bin Alwi is the UNESCO Chair on Human Genetics of Thalassemia and a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group on Genomics. He is a senior consultant Pediatrician & Clinical Geneticist at the Human Genome Centre, School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Kota Bharu, Malaysia. He received his specialist training in Pediatrics (Master of Medicine (Pediatrics)) from the same university and later went to study at University of Glasgow, United Kingdom (UK) where he obtained a MSc in Medical Genetics and then to University of Aston, UK where he obtained a PhD in Pharmacogenetics. Prof Zilfalil is the founder and head of the Malaysian Node of the Human Variome Project (MyHVP). He is a member of the Board of Directors of Human Variome Project (HVP) International (now known as Global Variome) and is the joint chairman for Global Globin Network (GGN) -- a global project by HVP which involve the systematic collection and sharing of variation data to combat haemoglobinopathies (Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease). He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee and the Gene/Disease Specific Database Advisory Council of Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) and the chair of the Genetic Counselling subcommittee of the HUGO Education Committee. He has served as the Director of USM Human Genome Center from 2005 to 2009. Prof Zilfalil is the chief editor of the Malaysian Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health (MJPCH), which is the official journal of Malaysian Paediatric Association and Malaysian Journal of Human Genetics (MJHG), which is the official journal of the Malaysian Society of Human Genetics. He is a council member of the College of Pediatrics, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and fellow of this Academy. He is also the founding president of the Malaysian Society of Human Genetics.
